The Girdlers’ CompanyBenjamin Street, Clerkenwell, London

A new build, mixed use scheme over seven floors comprising commercial office space, retail and five private apartments. Secant piled foundations support an RC frame, with the upper floors consisting of a new steel frame with structural timber slab infills.

The façade detailing combines feature brickwork using handmade bricks, exposed aggregate polished concrete medallions, signature façade cladding discretely incorporating the Client’s crest and a zinc cladding system to the new roof extensions.

The contemporary interior styling incorporates visual concrete elements such as columns, soffits and feature walls with an exposed services superhighway for M&E.

The challenging logistics include restricted access and the close proximity of Farringdon Station. This necessitates close liaison with the respective local authorities and third parties such as Network Rail and London Borough of Islington along with the negotiation of numerous party wall agreements
